Hawaiian Mythology & 'Awa Ceremony

This is a night of Hawaiian ceremony and storytelling.

At sunset, hear the blowing of the pū (conch shell) to mark the ending of the day and the coming night. Participate in Hawaiian cultural protocol during the oli kahea (permission chant) to ask permission to enter the ceremonial space.

Hawaiian ‘Awa

Hawaiian ‘Awa

Led by a Hawaiian Cultural Practitioner, engage with Hawaiian cultural protocol during an ‘awa ceremony. In this ceremony, we drink the ‘awa mixed with wai niu (coconut water). ‘Awa is the Hawaiian word for kava which has a mildly relaxing effect and is served ceremonially in a coconut cup. Each participant has a chance to speak when served, in response to a question posed.

Marvel at the countless stars above as we connect deeply in our circle, listening to the stories of the demigod Maui who captured the sun, stole the secret of fire, fished up the islands and more. The location for this event and the ability to have a fire depends on weather conditions.

Minimum group size of 10
Suggested donation of $99/per adult
$89 per youth under 18

*Donations pay Hawaiian Cultural Practitioners and raise money for free programs for those in need on Maui.
