About Makoa Quest

Makoa Quest is a 501c3 Nonprofit organization dedicated to Hawaiian cultural restoration.

We partner with Native Hawaiian Cultural Practitioners who lead culturally-immersive, educational and interactive Quests for private groups of 10 or more. Each Quest raises money which allows us to radiate wealth back into the community with our every step.

We are of service to the places that we go and give money to the Native Hawaiian nonprofit organizations who we serve. This is part of our commitment to regenerative tourism which works to restore the harm that has been done through the illegal occupation of the unceded Hawaiian land.

Our commitment to anti-racism involves providing gainful, meaningful work to Native Hawaiian Cultural Practitioners that is not entertainment-based and that instead perpetuates Hawaiian culture through engagement and service to Native Hawaiian organizations.

Through the funds that we raise from our Quests, we are grateful to have the opportunity to provide culturally-immersive programs for the low-income community here on Maui.

Our Current Goals:

  • Host our annual Hawaiian Outdoor Education Camp in 2022 for youth from low income families.

  • Raise funds to provide money for Maui youth aging out of foster care.

  • Pay Hawaiian Cultural Practitioners to provide Hawaiian cultural teachings at the Maui Community Correctional Center.

Our Commitment to Restorative Justice

We believe we are one global family and we are working to plant seeds of peace in the world through cultural restoration and balancing the scales of inequality. In addition to the restorative justice and anti-racist work we do in the community, we recognize that we must relentlessly examine racism within ourselves for it is embedded in the fabric of our society in which we in which we have all been socialized.

We acknowledge that racist thoughts, beliefs, actions and comments can be unconscious or unintentional. As an anti-racist organization dedicated to restorative justice we vow to purposefully identify, discuss and challenge issues of race, color and structures of oppression. We will also challenge ourselves to understand and correct any inequities we discover and gain a better understanding of ourselves during this purposeful process.

We are resolved to explicitly and publicly affirm our identity as an anti-racist organization working for restorative justice. We are resolved that our anti-racism commitment be reflected in each of the practices we engage in and support as a nonprofit. We believe that equality, justice and peace is not only possible, but that it is our destiny as a global family. We are thankful for the opportunity to do this work and we hope to hear from you.
