Hawaiian Hula Dancing & Lei Making Lesson

In the Hawaiian Hula and Lei Making lesson, we recognize plants and all living beings as our ancestors and the importance of reciprocity.

We cultivate a deep relationship with one another and the natural world through our opening circle share, plant walk, lei making and hula dancing.

Lei Making

Led by a Hawaiian Cultural Practitioner, groups learn to make a haku lei (worn on the head), learn several hula basic steps and learn a complete hula dance. On our plant walk, groups are introduced to the plants used in lei making and their stories. Engaging with Hawaiian cultural protocol, groups will sustainably harvest foliage and learn both the techniques to create their own lei and the significance of its use as an adornment.

This leads into an introductory lesson of the Art of Hula and the depth of meaning found within the words, movements and history of this cultural dance. Wear your lei while learning a complete hula dance.

Minimum group size of 10
Suggested donation of $99/per adult*
$89 per youth under 18

*Donations pay Hawaiian Cultural Practitioners and raise money for free programs for those in need on Maui.
